Developing our native garden

In December 2013 we bought a house on half an acre in Healesville, Victoria. The large front yard was set up neat straight rows of Diosma (Coleonema), variegated Pittosporum, box hedge and 4 large 35 year old cypresses. There were also some small ornamental conifers dotted about the lawns. I do understand that this garden was another person's pride and joy. However, being a lover of our native plants it certainly was not mine. Its days were numbered!

The front garden before the destruction..... I've just started trimming the branches of the cypress
I've trimmed the lower branches at this stage, beforehand, the phone and power lines ran right straight through the cypress trees

Almost there - just one more cypress to go
